About the Choir
The HCGC is a gospel music choir whose mission is to bring diverse audiences together through life affirming roots and gospel music. Through performance, workshops, and other community-based activities, we seek to uplift, enrich, and educate.
The HCGC has but one primary purpose: To carry an uplifting message of the love, hope, strength, and joy of Jesus Christ to diverse audiences and communities, bringing us all closer together to understand the true meaning of peace, equality, respect, unity, and justice. For over a century Gospel music have been there as a source of strength, hope, and encouragement. It is our hope that by bringing this music to the disenfranchised in our own communities, we can continue to keep that source of strength alive.
The HCGC is a nonprofit full gospel choir, which includes various small singing groups, and education workshops on gospel music. Money is raised through weekly member fees, business sponsorship, concert performances, and workshops. In turn, these funds help support the choir and professional groups to perform at hospices, hospitals, nursing homes, and other areas where the uplifting message of music is needed, but not affordable.
The HCGC now numbers 28 members, with 6 regular soloists. Special guest artists also participate in concerts. “It’s pretty incredible how far we’ve come in such a short time,” Edwin Baker choir director says. “This is a great group of people with a lot of energy, enthusiasm, and talent. And now we perform for audiences of 200 to 300 people. That says something, both about the quality of our performances and the public’s craving for this kind of music.”
Anyone interested in becoming a member of the choir or a small group is welcome.
